Daphne - couldnt help laughing when I saw your photo of the fungus invading the plant cells! So glad you're doing things that you love!!! research work in the lab must be very tough... well, your love-hate relationship with the lab will work out beautifully I'm sure! Met anyone interesting in the lab? Oh, it's Nick who is into Science... Greg is the younger one, into girls and basketball.

Zhou Zhou Zhou Zhou Zhou - 1stly, gotta ha, correct you - I am , hmmm, well, not pretty anymore... now just pretty messy... BUT ha, good news is - when a woman turns 40 - looks is no longer so important ( altho' it's awfully sad I cant wear my Winnie the Pooh shirts anymore) ... one of my top priorities now is to figure out some spiritual truths. 2ndly - thanks for drawing the birthday cake with 3 candles :-p

Ma-Yi - your marilyn Monroe photo is very cute! You look like a little girl! And I hope you'll never lose your wonderful child-like optimism in the way you view the world! By the way, Vancouver needs lots Pharmacists! If ever you tire of life in Spore, hop over and take a look here! eh, sending a video of myself is not quite possible right now... some liver issues - so I'm really bloated... when I look more human ( or woman ), I'll take a video ok?

Pei Shan - hee, okay mommy, I'll remember to drink mor water, eat more fruits, have more sleep, work hard, play hard... stay young at heart!!! on a serious note - I marvel at how you're juggling school with tuition and additional outside psychotherapy courses. Is Dr Cha still teaching you? Hey, Vancouver needs Psychologists too... winter is cold - but you could always wear lots clothing or find a HUGE HAIRY boyfriend!

Yuan Sheng- must be fun for both you & zhou to be room-mates! I'm glad to hear you're fine - and seeing your smiling face in the photo brings back warm memories of those good ol' days when you were our class LAO DA!

Gwen - thanks for the artistic layout! I'd wanted to say I'm sorry to hear you might have a detour in your life path... but after some thoughts - I guess I should say - congrats - because every single path we take... offers its own unique scenery... and sooner or later, we'll look back and say our lives were enriched 'cos of the different landscapes. thanks for your Israel photo and the profound reminder too!

Wan Jun - You added our photo into the album! I love it! VERY STRANGE - I didnt look tooooooooo fat in this photo! You used Photoshop to touch it up? I enjoyed those few hours together too. I'm sorry I was so sneezy that day. tHANks again for giving me the happy memories... sure hope our paths will cross again!!!

Sharon - you made a great point - sure hope all of you still have your beige Hwa Chong uniform kept somewhere... maybe we could all have a class gathering one day, with all of you wearing the uniform... the clas photo you attached... sigh, those were such happy carefree days!!! and thanks for keeping me in your prayers! Kenny - whaaaaaaat? I had light-hearted giggles??? I giggled??? gosh, hee, I never knew... I miss all of you too... you gals & guys may not realise it - but most of the time, it was you gals & guys who made me laugh lots, and kept me young at heart!!! it's I who should be thanking all of you for enriching my life journey! And I'm seriously waiting for all of you to start coming over to Vancouver for your honeymoons... Healthwise... my philosophy is to take one day at a time... ah, at least I know I can always look for you in the future if I need to!

Sophia - Wah, can you bring your boyfriend over to Vancouver when I need to move place? Could put those huge muscles to good use!!! Pricewater house is a very good & promising place to start your career! Working life is a bed of roses with thorns - usually due to differences in human perceptions and expectations... tread carefully and all will be well.

Qian Ru - Psycho + Socio is a very useful combination... and it'll be very interesting to find out from you, your future research findings on gender & power relations!!! ( you could follow up by specialising in marriage counselling?! ) - I did Psycho as my major too - yep, Psy is fun!

Xing Ni - My sons want to know if the Bunny you're holding in the photo is real! And I want to know when you're gonna fly over to check my teeth for me :-) and ah, your dentures look so real!!! Doesnt matter if you're dentist or vet... hey, can you specialise to become dentist for animals???

Jiemin - Thanks for 'Desiderata' - it REALLY helps to read it on a daily basis!!! And there's so much to say to you... not sure if some things in one's heart can ever be translated into words... thank you for wishing me inner peace... seeing the photos, especially of the one where you were out on an outing with the less privileged kids... yes, I understand what you mean about ' Sometimes it's a matter of perspective..."

Kelong Trip

So I'm planning a Kelong trip for class outing. It's a nice trip, with shopping, water sports etc in Malaysia. Seafood, slides, pool and free sunset provided. Leave from Tanah Merah MRT.

Primal Scream

So seeing at how this blog is completely dead, I shall spice thing up a little by sharing my streaking experience =) So for the uninitiated, harvard has this tradition called Primal Scream where basically on the last night just before finals, people gather in the yard at 12 midnight and streak round naked to much fanfare. Usually the band will be out in full force to play, and there'll be lots of people watching. All the "ticko" spectators, especially crazy tourists who come armed with cameras and video-recorders will encircle the yard and form sort like a "circuit"

I was completely psyched up for it, cos honestly, how many times in your life do you actually get to streak?!! So anyway, it was snowing lightly as I walked over to the Yard, clothed only in an outer jacket. I was really surprised to see how many people had already gathered there. Seriously, I mean like literally 400 people assembled at the form up point - guys and gals and maybe some others of a completely different sort. Though clearly that pales in comparison to the 4000 that showed up to catch the free show =)

Suddenly, someone gave the signal and everyone started stripping and running. I am clearly not a very experienced stripper since I managed to somehow entangle by trousers with my shoes. In the end, I ditched my shoes and ran with just my socks on. The yard's about 350m around, and it was definitely a long run. It's interesting how along the way, you spot friends in the "audience" and have to stop yourself from calling out to them..hahaa. Some people ended up running twice/trice and it was seriously the most amusing spectacle ever. Apparently, people seemed very at ease with their bodies the moment they stripped. I actually saw this girl (still wearing her birthday suit), talking nonchalantly with her fully clothed friend after the run (in the freezing cold!)..

Anyway, yup...please do update more! =)

Hey guys and gals!! haha..my very 1st post..after sooooo long..How haf all of u been?Haven't seen some of u in ages..Hope tt everything's gg well..and Mdm Toh too!!!!my dearest godmama..Really miss u so much..Wish we cld all visit u in canada and catch up..heh..but it's sure great to hear fr u and c the pics on the class blog..and i'm sure wanjun will tell us more when she's back.. :) Anyways, would like to use this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of u 4 the sweet bdae msges..read all of them after I reached home and wuz truly touched.. :) Page after page of beautifully decorated art pieces with equally beautiful words..words fail to express how touched I felt..Thanx so much for the all the effort and thought..esp when I noe how bz u guys r with uni..heh..Special thanx 2 those to those overseas who still went the extra mile to write and post the msges despite the distance..After 3 years, I'm still proud to say tt 03s71 rox my world!!

By orders fr Xingni,I'll update u guys abt my lil ol' life..Heh..jus finished yr 2 of my occupational therapy course in Aust..Uni is manageable but stressful at times..Aussies r so NOT slack and laid back..at least not here in my course..some of dem r even more ks than sporeans..haha..But yup,we started some clinicals liao but it's just a taster..nxt yr would be more intense..still hanging in dere and enjoying the ride.. :P

Will be moving out of college nxt yr(another word for hostel..in case those in US get confused coz my US frens said tt's wad u call uni rite??)..I've really enjoyed my time dere coz tt's where I actually got to noe and develop frenships w ppl fr different ctries and cultures..Sure,it wasn't easy in the beginning when all my sporean frens were in a different college where most Asians go to and I wuz the onli Asian in my wing..haha..stuck out like a sore thumb..but leaving familiar shores meant discovering new horizons..I've never regretted my decision to stay dere..heh..Saying goodbye on our last day in college wasn't easy..we cried and hugged so much..hopefully,as promised,we'll continue to meet up regularly when semester starts.. Despite the sadness,I'm kinda excited to start a new chapter living outside on my own!!!haha..I've found a place in a shared hse..nice hse and serene surroundings..mi cooking and cleaning will be a strange sight but yes,I'll update u guys how tt goes..

Okies..enuff rambling..Once again,thanx so much 4 the best bdae gift ever and hope to see all of u again soon 4 another class gathering??hee..4 those still having exams, jia you jia you..Take gd care 71 till the nxt time i c u... :)

Hey! I got smarter! I found out how to add a photo! That's my Baby Girl - her name is SAL. She is AMAZING... I bought her during my period of intense grieving, and she was just a palmful of fur... she would climb onto my chest & fall fast asleep on me, synchronising her breathing with mine... healing my inner pain... Now she is a big rascal... that's her, grabbing my foot, trying to eat me alive!

Now that I know how to post a picture, I'll drop by the class blog more often with pictures! Ah! I'll take some with Wanjun & then post the pix! I'll be seeing her in 6 days!

Are u refering to the post that you posted on 5th March? I have changed the post to a "draft" so that it does not appear on the Internet/Class Blog, but it's still saved under drafts in Blogger so that 71 people still can view it in the future. Is that ok?? Yes, sometimes the Internet is so unexpectedly dangerous.

Mdm Toh, I think u haven't heard from me for a long long time, right? I havent disappeared! I'm doing quite well now, now it's the crazy study period before the exams now... and those of us in Singapore are either in our 3rd year (1st year for some of the guys) already... how time flies really! But I think most of us are still around the same hehe, though abit more "matured" now. Was looking at some of the old class photos and was thinking, your sons must have grown such alot from then....!

We heard from Wanjun that she's going to Vancouver to visit you very very soon too... SO so so so ENVIOUS! Seems like your new (though not so new now already haha) life is really very different yet special =)

what has happened to our blog? hehe. the blogskin's gone and all =)

the new term has started for me too, and we're finally doing clinical theory! whee. no more organic chemistry, physics and statistics. i gather those at NUSmed are already armed with their personal stethoscopes? =) what have you guys learnt already?

as expected, the new term comes with an overwhelming academic workload.. and already i am quivering under the pile of notes and textbooks despite it being only one month since the school reopened!

hey friends!

how's everyone? school has started for most, if not all of us... wanna wish everyone all the best!

i'm currently on exchange in toronto, canada. will be attending university of toronto for this fall semester. i left s'pore on 1 sept and will be travelling a bit after my term ends before returning to s'pore on 31 dec. really hope to visit mdm toh in vancouver after my term! *crosses fingers*

so far toronto, canada is a nice place.. the people are warm and friendly! i still need to get used to the weather (sometimes it can get chilly and it will get worse as winter comes), the "ang moh" accent and of course, homesickness!

over the weekend i went to st jacobs village, elora gorge and niagara falls! photos are on my blog and facebook! please feel free to visit, and add me on facebook ok :)

Teaching in China

Hey guys,

Realized that I haven't blogged at all for nearly 3 months, which will explain why my last blog post is still stuck in May. Anyway, Xingni, those photos are really NICE! I think that's the most glorious sunset that I've ever seen (in picture or real life)...it even beats the ones on webshots! =)

Just came back from China not too long ago. Some interesting things I found,

1) 14 year old kids are in the classroom from 7.30am-9.30pm with only 10 min breaks in between lessons and 1 hr for lunch and dinner. Aren't we lucky to be born in Spore =)

2) The average class size in a public school is 65 kids.

3) Bus conductors will tear off tix only to throw them on the floor if people refuse to take them

4) Traffic lights are about as useful as a raincoat in a shower

5) There're dvd rental stores that only rent out pirated dvds (talk about double piracy hahaa)

But all in all, I must say that it was a really good experience, and I would really recommend anyone who is just looking for an alternative vacation abroad to go teach in China - especially inner China. Anyway, some pix that I took, more can be found on facebook.

haha. hey guys.. guess i shud blog some stuff while im having some hols now.. and also to help promote the pending class trip to Redang!
i have just been to redang 2 weeks back...n the beach is seriously nice!!.. like soft white sand that s really fine and cool to the touch.. and the sea s just this light blue green that shimmers in the sun.. (oh it was sunny all the time i was there, except when it was nighttime of cos)

hehe.. the water s really very clear!!.. and i went on snorkelling trips n saw many corals and fishes... FOUND NEMO... and saw small reef sharks too.. n if u re lucky u might see sea turtles as well.. hehe.. alright here are some photos.. hehe

hehe talk abt advertising for the beach.. my friends made me pose for this shot after i bought this straw hat from a local store.. =D

the beautiful lovely beach you can play volleyball.. frisbee.. or just lie down to sunbathe with a book in hand..

anw the resort u see is not the budget one i stayed in.. hehe..

Snorkelling!!.. the corals are really just like 2 metres below u and the fishes are swimming all over the place.. as long as you ve got some bread in hand..

there s a place just behind the resort i stayed in where u can climbed up onto the rocks and watch the sunrise!..im glad my roommates came back to wake me up again (yes i refused to wake up and they went ahead without me)

lotsa food!.. and it s all taken care of in the package... it s really eat all you can.. provided the food doesnt run out

always feel ravenous after snorkelling..

the open space area overhanging the rocks with a pub beside it that opens at night.. you re free to have ur meals there n go star-gazing at night..(i saw 2 shooting stars!!!) oh yes.. not to forget our class favorite activity-karaoke!!!.. yes u can sing all you want at the open air pub for just a purchase of a drink (need not be alcoholic).. haha.. although u risk having things thrown at u since it s for everyone to hear..n im not kidding on that cos when i went walking along the beach with my friends after.. we could hear the ppl singing karaoke at the pub still... it s like.. the whole stretch of beach can actually hear you sing!...

anyway.. my hols are ending this week.. n im like quite sad..
sigh..

MDM TOH!.. haha yes i cant wait to be at your service.. hehe..

CHYI!!.. cant wait to meet up with you and the rest of the class plus ppl from aussie coming back like EF.. oh i think jamie s back now too right?? hehe...

hi guys!

i realize to much chagrin that ive been rather absent from the class blog! :P this shall change!! haha. hope all you people are doing well.. my gosh i really miss the days in hwa chong.

the environment in taiwan is entirely different from what ive been exposed to in singapore... everything is incredibly academically-oriented. there are actually quite a number of people in my school who know (almost) nothing beyond the world of studying. dress up in a tank top and shorts and they think you wear too little! people here insist on swathing themselves with jackets and cardigans in summer! why? because they want to be porcelain white. -shudder- such determination. give me sentosa any day!

ive also taken up latin dance since coming over here and its pretty fun :P heh heh.

summer vacation is coming up soon in july and i'll be back in singapore then.. we have to meet up!!! :P

hmmm on an entirely different note, is anyone in need of dental treatment or check up? =D.. if you havent seen a dentist in years.. see some cavities or blackish/brownish stuff in your teeth.. have bleeding gums when u brush your teeth.. or need dentures etc etc.. pls call me!!! =)...Plus points include really affordable treatment (cos dental students dont get paid) and you get to see me!(kk..)..rest assured we have to pass competency tests before we are allowed to do certain treatment and we have doctors who ll check every stage of the treatment too!..
so if u need dental treatment/checkup.. or have friends or relatives who do.. pls call me okkkk

I apologize for the poor accessibility of the venue but it's a sunday evening and most eateries in town are usually flooded lest the ones with lousy food. We will be meeting directly at the restaurant. Thanks to Liwei, Sharon, Zhen Zhou, Shuwen and Dennis for helping to contact people.

hehe hello all!

it just occurred to me the other day that i will NEVER be able to attend MAF celebrations at hwachong until 6 years later at the very least!!! -cries-

ive been busy with school stuff since school started earlier last month... im taking driving lessons now, and doh the organic chemistry module (test on wednesday evening) is really making my head spin (maybe i'll do that spin-spin splitting thing someday) . hehe the clutch release + acceleration nonsense for driving lessons is killing me too!!! i have zero feet coordination. and plus i keep trying to brake with my left foot. i think the coach wants to slaughter me hehehe.

currently trying to get the job of group leader for the east asian medical students' conference held in taiwan next year... so wish me luck guys! hehe yeah and BECAUSE of that conference, i wont be able to come back for winter break (jan) so hrrrmph looks like i gotta spend my 21st (wah so old) bday in bluddy cold taipei with its horrid air quality. BUT BUT i WILL be back from 17th - 27th feb, in time for ang paos!!! hehe pls pls pls lets meet up then? been ages since ive seen you guys!!

Hey guys,

just updating u all abt us. we're having a 2weeks break now. &we just went to an alpaca farm for 10days for work attachment. In case, u guys dunno wat an alpaca looks like. here's the pic of our favourite alpaca!

So cute, right? Hahhahaa...can u all see the milk stain on her nose? We had to bottle feed her coz her mother died. She's only 3mths old and her name is Babe. She follows us along the fence whenever we pass by. arrghh...we miss her so much!!!!!!!!
Next favourite alpaca.....it's Teddy!! Actually, we don't know what's her real name, but she looks like a teddy bear, don't u all tink so? And u noe, she lifts her tail whenever u say, "goood giirrrllll!"
Had alot of fun on the farm. and guess wat....the 4 of us who went got to run the farm alone for 4 days when the farmer had to go away for an alpaca show. We also got to vaccinate, castrate, halter train and mate the alpacas. wahh...it was so much work but we really enjoyed ourselves, and not to forget about the many bruises we received from the alpacas' kicks, the green gooey spits by the alpacas and the numerous "protection" we got when we accidentally jabbed ourselves with the vaccination needle. okay guys, we aren't usu that careless....it happened coz the alpaca became very flighty and started jerking abt.
And we stayed at the farmhouse for the full 10days. The farm was so secluded that we didn't have TV and internet. The worst part was we had no water supply except from the rain collected in a water tank. We could only take 3minutes bath each day.
The farm was a great experience man...really missed it lots after coming back to the city.

Well, anyway, mid-autumn fest is coming!! Eat more mooncakes for us guys...and we hope all of u r having a great time wherever u r. Take care! :)

ive hereby completed my two months of mandatory basic military training and boy am i glad its over! :S gee. there wasnt a single day spent being clean! we had live firing exercises, obstacle courses with tnt and shooting and a hell lot of bloody marching. yeesh. >< i must say though that army food rocks... which says everything about the quality of food i get in my school. hehe.

hope that everyone's well! really sorry that i missed the last class chalet, it was the day before my nyf panel presentation, so was literally working till the next day....

i'm sure that the past 11 months (since MAF'05 gathering, or was there one more gathering i missed? hm....hahaa..) have been eventful for everyone and there must have been many new experiences and friends. heard that some people did really well (AND I MEAN REALLY WELL!) on first-year exams, please accept my belated congratulations! hahaa...sorry, a little slow here....second year just started, so yup, please keep up the good work, and work hard, play hard.

for the NS guys, two years (or slightly less for some) is about to end soon. Think about the days, minus away the weekends, p/holidays, off and leave, and all the unofficial rest-breaks you take, i'm quite sure that it will be a figure that you'll be quite satisfied with. Everyone will have different experiences in our big green family. But whatever the case, whether it was an internship, a uber-long OBS camp, banyan tree resort, memoirs of a construction worker, or a period of long -yawn- hibernation, experiences are ultimately what we make of them.

i've been well. a little too damn well that i sometimes kinda suspect that i'm in a dreamworld. i mean after hwachong, and you think that things can't get any better. okie that was true for a while, especially during the really rotten bits of trainee life. but for most parts of this year, i'm enjoying my work. life's stressful, considering a 7-7 job, and that sometimes i cant stop myself from thinking abt work even on weekends..., but its challenging and fun. and don't think for one moment i'm trying to sugar-coat an ugly truth... for one, i really do cycle to work, and for two, how bad can it be when your workplace overlooks our northern straits and i open my office door to the sounds of waves crashing on the shore with the occasional wakeboarder in sight....but i know that i'm probably just lucky... =)

What about you? How's life been for you? Looking forward to hear more interesting experiences!

hey all,

thought I'd post something since the blog's been quite stagnant lately. recently discovered a few things that I'd like to share with all of you. I don't know if any of you read the papers today... one of my acquaintances from school passed away in a car accident and I was at his wake yesterday. I just saw him at camp a week ago so you can imagine what it was like when I got a phone call from another friend informing me of the news. it's been surreal. been doing a lot of thinking since then and it's food for thought...

This goes out to everyone, if we were to die tomorrow, would the people we care about know how much they mean to us?

If we were to die tomorrow, would our hearts be right with God?

Have we made a difference on earth, even though our lifetime may seem short compared to eternity?

I don't think the reality has really sunk in for a lot of us yet and most of the time it takes unpleasant wake-up calls such as this to remind us of what's truly important in life. at the end of the day, what truly matters isn't money, status, or big cars and houses, which is sadly what we spend our lifetimes pursuing. so don't forget what you're living for.

and just want to tell you guys how much I appreciate your friendship over the years, and how thankful I am to have each and every single one of you in my life.

I am sure most of you are qt excited about the upcoming chalet on 13 july to 15 july rite? It's been so long since we last met up. But, we have a few issues to discuss. Firstly, I need the contact list leaders to ask their members again who are coming on thursday itself and who are coming on friday and the approx time of arrival. Most probably is that the army guys would come and stay over on friday bcos they are working, except for the more free guys. Gotta have a rough idea so that we can meet on thursday. Those who can stay for 2 nites, pls do so k :) The issue about having bbq or non-bbq on friday nite, I guess not many like the idea of having a bbq. Its okay then we will order pizza or kfc. Convenience is more important for lazy people like us huh :p Okay, just updat you all on the chalet. Its at pasir ris costa sands chalet (not the downtown east one..ours is further in..), its 2-storey but we will only know the chalet number when the date is near. I will update you all again, especially for those coming alone on friday. For leisure, in the chalet, pls bring cards and mahjong and whatever games you like. For leisure out of the chalet, can have the highly-debated nite cycling, more-or-less confirmed silent hill movie (at whitesands), watching sunrise/sunset at the beach, soccer watching (for guys at downtown east where there's a big screen if i m not wrong), maybe also bring a ball to play captain's ball together (rmb at botanical gardens..heh..) and (how can i forget) sing Ktv. Okay, below are the details to meet for those coming on thursday:

2nd issue: we've sourced out some of the chalet sites and currently only costa sands (pasir ris) has slots available for 7th july onwards.. 3d2n rates for premium chalet (single storey 4 beds) is $175($270) while that of duplex chalet (double storey 6 beds + sofa) is $230($350). Those who have NTUC union member card are STRONGLY encouraged to use them to help book the chalets otherwise we'll be paying e rates in bracket @_@ so right now we need to decide on a date ppl:

13 - 15 July : thurs - sat (T-S)
14 - 16 July : fri - sun (F-S)
20 - 22 July : T-S

hello all!!

haha long time no post! =) mmm still in taiwan now... as some of you might know, i actually reapplied to nus/ntu again early this year, in hopes of returning to singapore to do psychology. well, results of application are out and ... nus and ntu have both decided to take me back in again haha. BUT i gave the matter some thought (and alot more) and i think im gonna stay in taiwan to finish my degree after all.

i think at the end of the day, i dont know what im going to do for certain with a psych degree plus i really dont want to spend the rest of my life climbing the corporate ladder hehe. 8 months at the bank was really enough for me i reckon!! lol. yeah so im gonna stick to this school for all its ludicrous management and get my grubby hands on a med degree =) haha.

really hate having to make such a decision because there is so much that i have to give up... but well i guess at the end of the day you cant have your cake it eat it too. hehe. anyways, i really like taiwan! so that's a plus point..

Class outing

Together with Janice's and Wanjun's call for a class outing, Laoda and I also thought that it is time for a class outing. Recently, I know of a KTV lobang in Katong Shopping Centre called Teo Heng KTV. The rates are quite cheap ( a lot cheaper than Kbox) They have new songs (both english and chinese) and wireless microphones. The biggest rooms are big enough to house 10 pple i guess. The rates are charged per room per hour at $12/rm/hr. So if we have it for 3 hrs for 10 pple, each pays for only $3.60. I sounded abit cheapskate huh. But, I ve been there and i thought it was not bad. In case you are wondering, the place isnt the sleezy type dat allows guys to ask for xiao jie. Its proper. Its just a suggestion. Actually Laoda and I was thinking can u pple make it on this coming sat (13may). Pls tag asap and inform other pple of the class so that I can plan when and where to meet.. Hey guys,

By the time you read this I will already have sent out the msg to the grp leaders, so yup, just reply to the grp leader ya?

In essence, instead of a normal card, I'm getting this clayey thing that can be molded but will harden into solid clay in like a few hours. I was thinking of imprinting all our thumbprints there, then let it harden, then mount it onto some nice wood platform. The whole idea is quite cheap, the clay is only $4, and the wood platform for a nice one can get at abt $8. Works out to about $0.50 per person.

The only trouble is, as it will harden by air (i.e. don't need to flame blow) so, I need to set a time that everyone can come together just for like 10 minutes, add ur thumbprint then you can go =)

Venue: Esplanade basement (u know the open area where pple breakdance, where we did the card the last time)

Date: 23 Apr 06 (sunday)

Time: 2pm.

School here is so HORRIBLE!!!!!! so many things to learn and we have yet to start revising.. Muahaha Commonwealth games just ended last nite.. there were lots of fireworks :) did u guys manage to catch it on tv? ( those who did, shame on u ar nvr study :/)
Yesterday we made a trip to IKEA, it was lovely:) it felt like we were back in Singapore.. we ate meatballs! :) very very nice :)) those who haven tried go to Singapore's IKEA to try it out :)
yup yup.. now waiting for lessons to start in the comp lab and our stomachs are growling liao .. we miss singapore food.. heh any nice recipes to share? have been cooking for a month now.. and we are proud to announce that we are IDIOTS in cooking .. heh heh u should have tasted our fishball noodles it tasted like vvvvvvvvvv diluted soya sauce soup base muahahaha.. yay! going to be our one week easter hols soon.. time to catch up on our work and exploring round Melbourne :)

just sending out a post to let you guys know that im still alive. although its supposed to be spring, the weather definitely is not reflecting that! and i am totally wrong about how i'll be able to lose weight in winter cuz it wouldnt be too hot to exercise because its an entirely different situation here, being too cold to move. :X heh heh. everyone (seriously) got chubbier. they say they all lose it in summer, so im crossing my fingers and hoping that summer rolls along on its sunny ass soon before i turn into a NFL blimp =S

oh i finally got a job in school... cleaning toilets and emptying trash. uhm. yay? :)

before i forget, ive sent in my applications for NUS / NTU admissions this year for psych, so yup if i get in chances are i'll be on the next flight back. hehe :P no more military school for me!!!!

btw, for those of you who wanna watch some good tv, tune in to grey's anatomy. all i can say that its brilliant, and i love cristina!

Yup, this is pentium 1..haha..I'm sooo sorrie..Couldn't get in touch coz my internet's STILL not up in my rm.. dunno y it's taking ages to fix.. Even slower den me..Haiz..

Firstly, would like to thank everyone hu came to send me off (for the msges u guys wrote in e cute bk and ur presence) those hu wrote letters/cards, called and msged..As well as those hu met up with me in e morning to pass me the gift and card..Wuz truly touched by all u guys.. Could feel tears in my eyes when I saw so many of u turning up coz I totally wasn't expecting it given e unearthly hour.. Hope tt u all managed to get home safely..

Yup, I'm still adapting to the new envt here.. Wuz totally shocked when my hostel wing ppl r all aussies and americans..Kinda tough trying to fit in initially.. But no worries.. My new frens haf all been wonderful..helping me in many different ways.. My electrical pts fused once and my Aussie fren down the hall brot her extension cord down and fixed everything up 4 me connecting e wires to e electrical socket outside my rm..Dunno wad I'll do without her.. heh..

"Who am I" - A question philosophers have asked themselves since around 500 B.C. From the times of Democritus, Plato, Aristotle to modern day Freud, great thinkers have all pondered about it. So if you're pondering about it too, it shows that you're well on your way to becoming really great! =) The funny thing is, though everyone's been trying, no one has actually found out for sure who they are.

This is because there is no ideal Mdm Toh, or ideal Shawn, or ideal 03s71, we simply make ourselves up as we move along. I believe that there is no mold that we aspire towards, no embodiment of individual perfection that we must dream to attain. Instead, we define ourselves by our choices that we make, and the things that we do. It is by constantly reflecting on why we have consistently pursued towards certain actions that we find ourselves. Not the other way round that we seek to find ourselves before we seek our actions.

In trying to find ourselves, what we are really doing is trying to understand the meaning behind what we have done in the past. Why did I help that old lady cross the road? Why did I not cheat on that test? I find that it is often by examining past actions that we better understand ourselves, instead of searching aimlessly to the future in search of our perfection.

It is in that light that I ask you to re-question the phrase "we are not defined by our gifts and abilities, but by the choices we make". And if you're wondering what's all this rubbish about, please blame it on post-anaesthesia recovery.

Dearest All,

A Belated Thank You for the surprise Christmas Card! It's hard to describe the emotions that I experience, each time I receive such unconditional & undeserved care & concern from all of you. I know all of you are super busy, with your own day to day issues to grapple with... yet again & again, you reach out to me :-) I am very touched.

I have been 'MIA' (Missing In Action) for various reasons - primarily because I think I am LOST - 'cos now, all of a sudden, I am having serious trouble answering this question: "WHO AM I?" (ever asked yourself this question?)

Without the familiar physical & psychological landmarks in Singapore (ie. small but nice place where all my childhood memories are stored)... Without the familiar food & people (from you gals-guys to PM Lee to Jack Neo) in my life... Without the familiar festivals to celebrate... Without my identity as a teacher... Without my Papa aka best-friend on Earth...

Suddenly - I am no longer sure WHO I AM.

Please be patient with me - I am trying to make my way out of my Identity-Fog now... I will look at the Photo album often, and be reminded that Life is Good!

hey guys, I couldn't stand it, our class blog's like so stagnant so here I am posting something for the sake of posting something. Bear with me lol. So are we really going for campfire on Friday? I have training but hopefully I can rush down from CDANS(which is all the way at Bukit Batok!) for the campfire but if not, then do have a great time! I'm sure it'll be awesome =)

Hmmm life has been pretty ordinary on my side, school has just started and it's been a slack week so far. The only good thing about school thus far is that Subway has just opened!! Something else besides Kopitiam right Shuwen? ;) The horrible thing is that I have most of my lessons on the other side of school so it's a long walk, sigh. Just talking about Subway reminds me of the cookies... >.<

Anyone willing to organise a class outing when Vicky comes back? =) We should have a nice lunch or something and talk the afternoon away. And I've just realised that this year we're officially not teenagers any longer... we're in betweeners, not 21 but not teenagers either. Soon we'll be attending 21st bday bashes lol =)

nice to hear that you guys are meeting up often heh :) its awfully cold here the past few days, and winter isnt all that exciting anymore when your teeth chatter on your way to (unappetizing) breakfast =S heh hope you all had fun on New Year's eve cuz i sure did - went for the countdown at taipei 101 for the first time and boy were the fireworks amazing! :) saw the live performances of soooo many artists -> mayday, stephanie, ou deyang, elva hsiao, ahmei, machi, huang xinling, FIR (!!) :) heh i didnt really know the songs though but it was fun to squeeze through the crowd nevertheless. haha! here's a blurry picture of the taipei 101 after 12mn :P (i wonder how much sony paid to get their name up there...)

n the story unfolds....

one sunny tues morning at west coast park in the midst of a hall team softball trg, a guy threw a ball at the pitcher who happened not to be looking n the next moment..she was lying on the ground momentarily paralysed..probably from shock. when she finally could stand up she realised her lips felt quite swollen.turned out that the ball had hit her cap n she ended up biting her lips.
the whole team was quite worried n kept suggesting she go see a doctor, to which she declined and said she'll be ok after icing her lips n resting for a few days as injuries n swellings r quite commonplace in her 7yrs of playing softball.when eventually she got to see herself in the mirror when she went to change, she understood the worry she saw in the eyes of her teammates... her lips were MEGA SWOLLLEN..

haha..looks bad right??..hehe.. it looks worse in real life when it s really 3D..n u can see ulcers blood clots n what nots.. but dont worry guys.. it s gone down since.. but still quite hideous looking.. so dont get a shock when u see me on sat.. meanwhile im trying to stay home if i can help it.. so i wont scare innocent ppl on the streets (more than i usually do i mean).... haha..

ok.. folks sorry this is not the end.. i need to complain.. abt this doctor in NUS whom i went to see..well after asking a few brief qns he decided to send me to A&E at NUH to take an x ray of my skull cos i was complaining of a bad headache...although i thought it quite redundant since i really dont feel any bumps on my head so the ball shouldnt have hit my head directly n badly... but i still went lah..cos still have to see a doctor first..so i went A&E.. n waited for like nearly 3hrs..in the end the doctor there after giving me a check up told me i dont need an x ray..n sent me home with some medicine for bruise swelling n bongela gel...

$%!$%! i felt so cheated!.. i concluded tt the first doctor i went just wan to go off for his lunch break cos he asked me what time i got hit n i told him ard 11.. n he asked why didnt i go down straight after i got hit (it was almost 1pm then) and said that "it s almost lunch time now". with a look of distaste on his face... yea.. n he barely examined me at all.. just took a look at my lips n asked a few haste qns..
when i proceeded to qns abt the necessity of an x ray he just said "well.. u ll just take the x ray first n we ll see how things go from there" n went on to write the letter of recommendation n sent me off...

well i admit the bad headache i experienced should have been quite a worrying sign.. but it could have been due to trauma.. n the doc at A&E told me headaches n nausea are quite normal n will go off in a few days time... oh wells.. haha.. who knows.. i may really have permanent brain damage... cos my friend told me vomitting is a sign of brain damage.. haha.. but i didnt vomit lah.. just felt nauseous.. hahahahahaha ..... really la..haha i really didnt vomit.. hahahahah

Really sorry that I couldn't get to write this sooner, but thanks so much you guys for coming down to watch my commissioning parade. It means so much to me =)

It's hard to imagine that so much has happened since we finished our 'A' levels. The journey was long, tiring and at some points really just f***ed up, but looking back, its been a fruitful endeavour filled with many happy and unique experiences. Strangely enough, the point that brought me closest to tears was not today, but yesterday night during our final rehearsal for the parade. Looking at the state flag atop the SAFTI tower, Its hard to describe the feeling, maybe its a sense of burning patriotism, the sudden realization that if we ever do take up arms - that you may very well be the difference between the life and death of those whom you command.

I'm proud to be amongst the men at the frontline who will galiantly lay down their lives for their cause, and their loved ones back home. As this phase of my NSF life draws to a momentous close, a new chapter has opened waiting to be explored. My current posting is as a staff officer (Dy S3) for 35 Singapore Combat Engineers. In short, I'll be responsible for the planning and co-ord of training, operations and schedules for the unit. Whilst not physically demanding, its mentally stressful, but let's see how things unfold.

Once again, thanks so much for coming down. Perhaps it be apt that I end off with the SAF Officers' Creed.

just to add on liwei's point..

erm i'll be posting up further infomation but there's a free shuttle bus from the boon lay interchange so we dont have to march (erps) in to the parade square (i can show u e way =p) most probably we won't be able to sit in the grandstand (best view with all the shuai officers in their number(?) 1s), so should be sitting at the side tentage (some distance away) but there's televisions available so shouldn't be a problem.

anyway back to e main topic which is tt of gatherings.. haha our dear ef and jj are back. melinda someone help me check. chyi uei and brenda too. michelle shld be back (today if im not wrong) so i guess its time for a gathering.. need to fix a date (probabaly around the x'mas season?) and a location.. so that means i'll need a someone to volunteer their houses. dates will be fixed later so yeah.

Hey everyone

Our dearest Shawn is going to be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of the Singapore Armed Forces this Saturday (Laoda and Pom will join him in a few months' time). Unfortunately Shawn gave his only other seating ticket (besides those for his family) to Quanyao, another friend. However we are still free to go and view the parade and congratulate him, but of course we have to stand and not sit.

I'm not sure of the details (will check again) but it's in the Parade Square at SAFTI MI (it's in the most ulu possible part of Jurong, unfortunately also quite near where I stay so I can take you all there) and it is in the evening, it starts by 5.30pm if I'm not mistaken (will confirm again I bet I remembered the timing wrongly)

So the most important question: who is interested in going? PLEASE INDICATE YOUR RESPONSES ON THE TAGBOARD. I will check back again in a few days if we have enough people we'll organise an "outing" down to watch our PM ok?

heya everyone.. haha.. miss ng s wedding had been a wonderful event.. n also an eye opener since ive nv been to a church wedding b4 n a catholic one at tt.. Miss Ng was absolutely glowing with happiness!...n other highlights of the day were
1) kenny overslept n took a cab down
2) Eugene.. meiyun! long time no see!
3) Movies at Jurong Point with majority watching Harry Potter, n the minority(me zz n eugene)watching Just Like Heaven ( which was wonderful!)
4) the minority passing time while waiting for majority to come out from their movie
NOTE:this wouldnt be a highlight if not for the fact that the minority were actually squeezin with a bunch of kids n kiasu parents to count how ...many snoopys ..how many xmas trees n how many musical notes(in red) there were in respective pictures in the concourse of Jurong Point..all to fill in a form to take part in a lucky draw. and most imptly... that the minority includes ..*erhem.. he-who-can't-be-named (pssss look above..)
4)Dinner at LongJOhn silver followed by dismissing of the fellowship

yep.. n b4 i wrote all this crap.. i was actually writing out the various Chapters n topics i have to cover for my biochemistry test which will be on the 10th of JAN.. the first week of sch (WTH!) yea.. in a bid to start planning my study timetable.. yes.. u did not see wrongly... cos well u see..
the class slacker has done it again..singlehandedly managed to create history in the history(hmm does smth sound wrong here?) of dentistry to fail 3 CAs out of 4 in one SEMESTER. haha.. so well.. im really getting cold feet now esp when the list i just wrote out while flipping thru my clean n crisp printed notes are super unfamiliar to me..what the heck.. i dun even know the sequence of the different sets of notes under the same Chapter.. oh well.. n this is due to sleeping in class.. being late.. or completely absent..(due to oversleeping for 8am lectures).. bleh.. so the next time u guys see me.. dont ask me how s school.. i ll just ans it here once n for all.. IT SUCKS

Hey how's everyone?

My exams just ended on wednesday (those who are still having exams, please have mercy on me... don't kill me!). Finally got my break! I moved back from Raffles Hall to home after my exams. I'm gonna miss my hall friends! They have been a wonderful bunch of people to hang out with.

Great to see you all again at Miss Ng's wedding! I had an exam on that morning, and almost thought of not going as I feared I won't be able to make it on time. I'm grateful that I eventually decided to go. Miss Ng looked great in her bridal gown (actually she has always been beautiful). How was harry potter? Nice? I'm thinking of watching harry potter and chicken little which opens in cinemas 1 dec! The chicken little trailer my friend sent me was absolutely cute! I shall email it to everyone to bring a smile on all your faces!

Are we having a class gathering this hols? So far I know Michelle and Ammily will be back... What about the rest? Can't wait to see everyone again! It's wonderful to meet and catch up with one another's lives once in a while.

went on a class outing on saturday to bishan rock, viewed a waterfall that was decidedly less impressive than the Peeing David. :P which made me ponder if the combined urinary prowess of all the class guys would create a nigara falls by comparison, heh. and to think we spent so long getting up there and locating the 'fall.

saw an interesting variety of squashed organisms. some quite, quite fresh (cuz one of us stepped on it). there was the rather deflated looking toad, a mouse pancake, as well as a freshly juiced multicolored caterpillar (god bless). in fact, i think we saw more dead animals than alive. ah well, it would be an insane animal to come out in the wet, winter drizzle anyways. which is more than what i can say for the people who went. heh.

dinner was at the fancy Woodstone restaurant. the name having absolutely no correlation to the meals served. heh. but hey the food was good and the service was praise-worthy, so i shouldnt complain. :P its the n-th weekend that im eating pizza/western food though.. so ehhh i didnt have alot. in fact, ive established a new rule to NOT HAVE WESTERN FOOD FOR AWHILE. and i am staying off all taiwanese steak. it just doesnt have the steak taste.. ack. jack's place does it so much better :P mmm when i go back to singapore im going to try the buffet at american club, have that ponderosa grill thing.. not to mention kenny rogers with the deeeeelicious corn muffins. damn taiwanese western food!!!!!

this morning was to make up for all the calories consumed last night, for i went for martial arts class and then rushed back to school (after surviving a rather loopy bus ride) for dance sport class. my joints are really worn down. i think i need to start eating some supplements. =S had to tape up both my knees and my wrist today. gotta check online for the gymnast tape. at NT145 per roll, the one im using now is wayyyy too uneconomical.

heh oh lunch was a grand affair. well kinda.. YL and i visited one of those noodle houses in a tiny ally and since we couldnt decide on whether or not to get sichuan noodles / mutton noodles / and fish noodles... we got all three. hehe. ahhh im stufffffed. :D finally, im eating PROPER noodles. not like the mushy shit they try to pass off as noodles in school.

on a separate note... we got our dance costumes today! haha. yay.

It was great seeing all of you again today! Reminds me of how much I miss everyone =) Well, uni life has certainly done us good, you girls look fantastic, and NS seems to have done the guys good too, from boys to men yes? In fact I think we've all grown in one way or another... But it's comforting to know that friends or at least 03S71 is here to stay =)

Let's have a class gathering after exams alright? Especially with Mich coming back from Cambridge, gotta enjoy our holidays while it lasts lol.

I think $8 or $10 should be enough for a $100 red packet and a nice gift. Guess we can include a small card as well that says tt it's from all of us 03s71 ppl :) btw, is there any number (for the red packet) that brings about harmony or happiness or something? like $88 or $99? I don't know, coz I've never been to a wedding b4, not even a wedding dinner... though i've been to an Indian wedding haha. v interesting!

As for gifts, besides wedding albums, ornaments n mug sets, maybe we can give personalised presents, e.g. from push carts in shopping centres.. there's this stall at bugis junction that sells small wooden painted bears. Got both guy and girl bear wearing different (painted) types of clothes.. then u can add pegs/magnets or mount them on some photo album, wall plaque bearing some meaningful words, etc. Qt affordable. Duno if it's too cutesy for weddings, I mean I'm fond of cute things u know :p If not,we can get more "romantic" or practical stuff =)

I'll be thinking of wedding bells at 10.30am that day... while I make my way to the exam hall... :( Have fun pple! :)

well anyway.. i totally screwed up my anat test today(which is my LAST test).. the things i didnt study all came out!.. 1st qns on neuromuscular stuff.. 2nd on kidney nephrons!!.. completely crapped the 1st qns n 2nd qns is based entirely of what i can rem from 'A' lvl bio.. n the last qns on nervous system!! which i only read through and am sooo confused abt!.. this s great..

wow, looks like everyone is having a blast! =) its amazing how our class is spread out all over the world now > singapore, taiwan, china, australia, UK and USA! =) hehe talk about being international!

glad to hear that everyone is doing great!! better have some nice updates on my post, too! hehe

well first off, im due for a chemistry test at 615pm later -> we're doing molecular orbitals and quantum laws, which i completely dont understand. so if any of you sciency people out there have any inkling at all how to do this... pls email me or sth!!

academic stuff aside, im completely busy for the next month -> school anniversary end of november, and i'll be participating in many competitions / events. will be taking part in a wushu performance, latin dance performance, cheerleading performance, and 4 track events (100m, 400m relay, discus throwing, and uhh inflex arm hang haha!) i have BUSY written all over my face now >< oh yeah and im in the school's table tennis team!!!! LOL isnt that the greatest joke, dennis and yuansheng? =)

the midterm crunch here at brown has come and gone, the semester is almost half over, and i am finally here bearing photos. (yay!)

the sky here is amazing and the weather is nothing if not consistent, at least on a day-to-day basis. if it rains, it rains non-stop for the whole day, and usually for the rest of the week or so. if it's sunny, it's blue skies and sunshine all the way - no rapid weather changes or afternoon tropical thunderstorms here. the temperature fluctuations play havoc with my cold-intolerance though.

a week ago, i spent a weekend at maine and new hampshire with a group of singapore students. new england is famous for its fall foliage, and we had a great time, despite the continuous rain.

Heyo Class!!!,

how's everyone doing?? &how's everyone's holidays??Me and eefung went to sydney for 4 days 3 nights. stayed at a backpacker's hostel and visited the opera hse, harbour bridge, royal botanical gardens, darling harbour, chinatown (our fave!), fisherman's market(our fave too!)and bondi beachhh( also our fave tooooo!!) :) paiseh for the many favourite places....hehehehehehhee

o my o my.....at sydney, the only thing we spent on was: FOOD!!!! haha not very surprising bah.. it was like letting loose two pigs in sydney muahaha.. heh.. we wud recommend the fishermen's market the seafood there was v fresh and yummy.. girls who are dieting DO NOT VISIT THAT AREA! haa u wud go on an eating spree.. imagine sashimi bars where sushi chefs slice the fish meat on the spot for u (oishii ne!) and counters and counters of lobsters, oysters, prawns, scallops, all kinds of fish, calamari, crab, squid.. woohoo! and sitting by the sea eating the food while seagulls stood by drooling ans waiting there anxiously for us to leave so they cud munch on the scraps of food.. :) and the "Gelato Bar " by Bondi Beach serves GREAT desserts.. the choc- hazlenut strudel was one of the best we've ever eaten!!

our exams are around the corner.. abt a month away.. what abt you guys? lets have a class chalet in dec or sthn? we can organise one if u all want one :) heh.. anw study hard and play hard..

as you all know most of e PSC scholars are leaving tml on the 28th.. michelle included~

so i'll like to make a small appeal for the class to go down, after all, it'll be ages before we get to see her again. and for all that she's done for the class, the endless gatherings, the numerous pick-me-ups and not forgetting the delicious cookies.. haha i think she deserves more that that!!

her flight's @ 2320 tml night, SQ 322 so most probably she'll be there around 2000~2030. so i think 2030 would be a good time to meet if at the airport's mrt. more specific details will be put up later so do watch this space.
